If you’ve ever felt nervous before an interview, you’re not alone. Around 93% of people experience pre-interview jitters. And it’s no surprise—interviews can impact financial stability, career growth, and personal confidence. With so much at stake, feeling overwhelmed is completely natural.


The problem? Many of us struggle to present our best selves, even when we’re fully qualified. The pressure to impress can make even the most capable candidates stumble.

I’ve been there. I used to dread interviews—and the agonising wait afterwards. But everything changed when I reframed my approach. Today, I look forward to interviews and consistently land job offers. Now, I’m sharing my step-by-step process to help you tackle interview nerves, embrace the experience, and confidently showcase your skills.

1. Set Yourself Up to Win

Confidence isn’t something you have—it’s something you build. And small wins lead to big wins.


💡 How? Be honest about your skills and target roles that align with your current capabilities. Applying for realistic positions helps you secure interviews where you feel prepared and confident, which boosts performance and future opportunities.

2. Read the Job Brief Carefully

The job advert is your roadmap to success.


📌 Focus on the skills and experience you meet.

❌ Don’t panic if you don’t check every box—many employers hire based on potential.

✅ Highlight your strengths and enthusiasm for learning. Hiring managers value adaptability just as much as experience.



3. Research the Company

Want to stand out? Show you understand the business, its challenges, and its industry.


🔍 Do your homework:

✅ Explore their website, social media, and press releases.

✅ Use LinkedIn, Google News, or SEMrush to find recent developments.

✅ Check out competitors—this insight sets you apart.

4. Practise, Practise, Practise

Great interviews don’t happen by chance. Confidence comes from preparation.

✅ Rehearse out loud—refining your delivery makes a huge difference.

5. Reframe Your Mindset

Here’s a game-changer: The interviewer wants you to succeed.

They chose to interview you because they see potential. Instead of seeing the interview as an interrogation, approach it as a conversation—a chance for both sides to see if it’s the right fit.


💡 Turn nerves into excitement—this is an opportunity, not a test.



6. Introducing Dyslexia in the Interview

If you’re dyslexic, interviews can be a great opportunity to show how you’ve developed resilience and problem-solving skills. One of the best ways to introduce your dyslexia is through the common question: “Tell me about a time you faced a challenge at work and how you handled it?”


This allows you to frame dyslexia in a positive light, showing how you’ve adapted and thrived. Whether it’s finding creative ways to manage workloads, using assistive technology, or developing unique problem-solving strategies, you can highlight how dyslexia has shaped your strengths.


✅ Share an example where you overcame a challenge using strategies that work for you. ✅ Focus on how this experience makes you a strong, adaptable candidate.

✅ Keep it positive—employers want to see how you succeed with the right support.


By presenting dyslexia as an asset, you demonstrate self-awareness, resilience, and the ability to thrive in the workplace—qualities every employer values.
